A Fairytale Autumn at Blaylock Mansion: Kyra & Daniel’s Whimsical Nelson Wedding | Calgary Wedding Photographer

I first met Kyra and Daniel at a bridal show in Calgary, and the moment they told me they were getting married in Nelson, BC, I was all in. It had been years since I’d visited the Kootenays, and the opportunity to return as their wedding photographer was a dream come true.

Kyra’s intuition is strong—early in their relationship, she drove past the Blaylock Mansion and told Dan, "We are going to get married there." On October 10, 2025, a powerful intention-setting day, that manifestation came to life in the most enchanting way possible.

A Whimsical Fairy Vibe in the Kootenays

The theme was "Whimsical Fairy," and honestly, the Blaylock Mansion looked like it was plucked straight from a storybook. With the autumn ivy turning deep shades of red against the stone architecture and the ceremony overlooking the calm waters of the lake, it was pure magic.

Kyra’s dress was a total show-stopper—I was completely obsessed! It perfectly complemented the "sentimental, timeless, and unforgettable" vibe of the day. We spent the afternoon running through the secret corners of the mansion’s gardens, capturing portraits that felt like a fairytale come to life.

Sunset Reveals & Garden Parties

After a beautiful lakeside ceremony, we headed to The Prestige Lakeside Resort for the reception. The food from Port701 was incredible (a local favorite for the couple), and the night turned into a high-energy dance party where guests were constantly rushing the floor to grab photos with the happy couple.

From the "imposing and elegant" mansion grounds to the sunset over the water, this wedding was a beautiful reminder of why I love traveling beyond Calgary to capture these unique love stories.

What inspired your wedding decor? "A lot of the decor was inspired by The Blaylock, the Autumn season, and our show-stopping ensembles! We love how the mansion looks straight from a fairytale with the fall colors."

What was your favorite moment of the day? Dan: "Seeing Kyra for the first time as she walks down the aisle." Kyra: "Being able to celebrate our love (and show Dan off) to all of our friends and family!"

What are three words you’d use to describe your day? "Sentimental, Timeless, and Unforgettable."
