There is something timeless about a black-and-white wedding. It’s a color palette that never goes out of style, and for Sarah and Brett’s July wedding at Elspeth Events, Near Sylvan lake, it was the definition of "classic."
Coming back to capturing wedding films this season has been so life-giving. Videography allows me to capture the things a photo just can't—the catch in a voice during a vow, the laughter during cocktail hour, and the way a dress moves during a sunset stroll.
A Summer Day Captured in Motion
The ceremony was sun-drenched and beautiful, leading right into a relaxed cocktail hour. Sarah and Brett wanted their guests to truly enjoy the property, so the lawn was filled with games and laughter.
One of my favorite moments to catch on film happened during our sunset portrait session. We were joined by a very friendly local: one of the farm cats! Brett, being a guy who loves cats, was more than happy to have a new friend crash the shoot. It led to some of the most genuine, giggly footage of the entire day—the kind of "real life" moments that make a wedding film so special.
Heartfelt Speeches & Sunset Magic
As the sun began to dip, we snuck away for some golden hour shots. The light at Elspeth Events is absolutely incredible, casting a warm glow over the trees that looked like pure magic through my lens.
But the real highlight? The speeches. They were so sweet and heartfelt that I found myself tearing up in the corner while filming. Getting to record those words so the couple can hear them again for years to come is exactly why I love being a wedding filmmaker in Alberta.
The Wedding Vibe: Classic Black & White
Sarah and Brett’s day was proof that you don't need a million colors to make a statement. By sticking to a classic white and black theme, the focus stayed exactly where it should be: on the emotion and the connection.
